Tips for overseas athletes getting to the venue:
  • Hire a car, even if you fly to Port Mac, there are some beautiful areas to visit.
  • Fly into Sydney and hire a car.  Port Macquarie is a 4 hour drive north of Sydney.
  • Tri Travel do a tour to Ironman Australia – a good option for overseas athletes travelling to this race for the first time.

  • Long flat stretches, can be windy, roads poor in places, massive hill x 2 on Matthew Flinders Drive.

  • Slower bike course than some IM races, check out the big hill a must!

  • Flat - easy for supporters

Run course tips
  • Out and back laps so quite cramped in places, poor road surface too and dark out the back so be prepared.

SUPPORTERS

Tips for supporters get the most out of watching the event?
  • Great for supporters on the run, poor on the bike but with 2 laps at least a fleeting glance on 2nd lap.
  • Swim ok but athletes disappear up the river and canal early on.
  • Get a spot on Matthew Flinders Drive to cheer athletes taking on the hill.  Great atmosphere.

  • Lots of bars and restaurants along the course, most catering for IM day

  • The Observatory, great pool, but there are other hotels actually on the run course
